KPTA’s Skiing Tips For Success

My child has never been skiing before. Can they come?
Yes! We provide an hour long lesson before we allow them to hit the slopes.

My child is a pro! Does (s)he have to take the lesson?
No! If your child is a confident skier, they are not required to take a lesson. However, they must demonstrate their skiing ability. If we determine they need a refresher, they will be required to join a lesson.

What should my child wear?
Your child needs to wear warm layers. As they become acclimated to the mountain, they may start to feel hot, so layers allow them to regulate their body temperature. They should wear a water resistant coat, and pants- snow pants are best! No jeans!!! Tall, thick socks are better than thin socks, and cotton is always best. We suggest winter goggles or sunglasses as the sun shining on the snow can create a glare. We also suggest SPF on the face. You’d be surprised how much you can tan in the snow! Lastly, make sure your child has a hat, scarf, and gloves or mittens.

What if my child gets tired?
A staff member will be in the ski lodge at all times. If your child needs a break, they can come in for a snack and some hot cocoa until they’re ready to head out again!
